The churches in our area are all closed down due to the prevention of the spread of the Covid-19. Fr William, our spiritual guide according to Fr Querbes's charisma, has been the moderator of the North Block of Kyoto City and celebrates today's Mass online from the chapel of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, located calmly to the north of Kinkaku-ji Temple, the Golden Pavillion, which is one of the most popular tourist spots in Kyoto. He celebrates morning masses for the Discalced Carmelites and the School Sisters of Notre-Dame, and, of course, for us the Viatorians in Kyoto. As a missionary, he works very hard and sincerely for us the Viatorians, the faithful in the area, our students and the Sisters.

新型コロナウィルス感染症拡大防止のため、現在京都市内の教会は閉鎖されています。洛星や北白川教会のある京都洛北ブロックでは、神父様たちが交代で、衣笠の女子跣足カルメル会の聖堂から主日ミサ配信をしてくださっています。今日はヴィアトール会のウィリアム神父様の司式です。ウィリアム神父様はこの女子跣足カルメル会とノートルダム教育修道女会の朝のミサ、そして勿論北白川教会でヴィアトール会のミサも司式されています。

On the day of Epiphany, we put away the Christmas illumination of the big tree in front of the former Viator Chapel next to the school.
This tree has been decorated during the Christmas time for years by the missionaries. We celebrated 70th anniversary this year, and so this three, which was planted in their early years, has grown to be the biggest tree around here, and it is a witness of the growth of the Japanese community of the Clerics of St Viator and Rakusei, their mission school in Hakubai-cho.
The lamps that decorate the tree, made by the Brothers who used to be here, have been handed down for a long time, and now we associate members continue to take care of them.
Different from recent high-tech Christmas tree decorations, their gentle lights bring peace to our mind. It is loved by the neighbors and referred to as an especially healing Christmas tree in this neighborhood.
We decorate this tree on the first Sunday of Advent in late November 2022, greeting the 71st anniversary of the Viatorian Community here with praise and gratitude. Until then, we carefully store the decoration with the thoughts of the brothers who took care of it before.


親愛なるヴィアトールファミリーの皆様へ

主の公現を迎え、クリスマスツリーの電飾飾り付けを片付けています。

このツリーは歴代の宣教師の方々により代々飾りつけられて来ました。70周年を迎えた今年迄、白梅町ヴィアトール修道院とヴィアトー学園の成長を見守り、共に大きく成長し、周辺の木々の中で1番大きな大木に成長しました。
ヴィアトール修道会の方々が手作りで作られたツリーを飾るランプは昔から変わらず受け継げつがれ、ブラザーの後を大切に準会員が引き続き守っています。
最近のハイテクのクリスマスツリーの飾り付けと違い、優しく輝くランプはとても心を癒してくれます。周辺の人々に「特別に癒されるクリスマスツリー」として親しまれています。
2022年の11月下旬の待降節第１主日に再び飾り付けを行って、71年目の年を賛美と感謝と共に美しく迎えるために、歴代のブラザーが大切にされた想いと共に大切に収蔵します。

Prayer for the Clerics of St Viator,especially for the Japanese Community

 

This is the prayer we have been saying for these two years.

Lord, bless the Clerics of St Viator all over the world, who are evangelizing as a missionaries in education. Especially, bless the members of the Kyoto Community celebrating its 70th anniversary, following in the footsteps of more than 35 missionaries here so far. Let them be able to keep on preaching the Good News here in Kyoto in their parish and mission school. Amen.

It snowed a lot during the night. Mr Oshima, one of the Viatorians here, got rid of the snow with his colleague before the students came.

コロナ禍に入って、私たちは毎朝、次のような祈りを唱えています。

主よ、教育修道会として福音宣教を続ける世界のヴィアトール修道会を祝福して下さい。特に70周年を迎えた、京都のヴィアトール修道会が、現在まで35人をこえる宣教師の方々の今も生きる魂を受け継ぎ、この土地と建物に染みついた福音を大切に、未来へと述べ伝えていく事が出来ますように。アーメン。

今朝は準会員の大島さんが、生徒たちがくる前に、昨晩降り積もった雪を取り除いてくださっていました。

Breviary on the morning of January 13th, 2022

We Viatorians get together in the school chapel at 8:00 every morning, and pray with the Breviary together. 

We used to invited our students to this morning prayer, but since the school was closed due to the Covid-19, we prayed together all by ourselves, but after the school was allowed to re-open to the students, we let the limited number of students attend it, for we cannot let a lot of students come into the small chapel at the same time. 

 The two students are 12th graders and they have always been with us since they entered the school six years ago. Our school year ends in March, and now at this moment they are going to take the entrance examination of the universities just this weekend. We really wish them good luck. 

 聖務日課　2022年1月13日朝 

私たちは毎朝8:00に学校の聖堂に集まり、就業前の一時を聖務日課をすることでともに祈りの時間を持ちます。 

コロナ自粛前は生徒も参加していましたが、学校が休校になってから、私たちだけで行っていました。再会してからも密を避けるため、生徒の人数を制限していました。 ここに写っている生徒二人は高校３年生で、中学入学以来６年間、毎朝こうして共に祈ってきてくれました。今週末は大学共通テストです。彼らの健闘を祈るばかりです。

 

Benediction on Friday,January 7, 2022(Evening Prayers at 18:00)

Dear Viatorian Family

In the early evening, our first Benediction in the year 2022 started quietly. It was chilly before it was going to snow.

   
The evening prayer is also held only in St. Viator Kitashirakawa Church at this moment. This has been passed down for many years by Viatorian religious, associate members, and guided faithful. 

Father William showed us the communicon (the Body of Christ) in the majestic Ostensorium, beautifully illuminated by one of the previous Brother's handmade lamps. Our silent prayer deepens like the cold, clear and quiet night. We praised God and prayed for everyone in the Viatorian family around the world to stay healthy in spite of the current spread of the new type of Covid.

May the name of God be praised.

親愛なるヴィアトールファミリーの皆様

金曜日の晩の祈り、聖体礼拝の祈り、ベネデイクションにて。
雪の降る前の凍るように寒い、透き通った静寂な空気に包まれた夜の始まりの時。
2022年の聖体礼拝、ベネデイクションの祈りがひっそりと行われました。
唯一カトリック聖ヴィアトール北白川教会にて、正会員と準会員そして導かれて来た信徒の方々によって長年受け継がれて行われる晩の祈りです。
ブラザーの手作りのランプで美しく照らし出された、荘厳なオステンソリウムの中の御聖体がウィリアム神父様によって顕示されます。
冷たく透き通った静寂な夜の様に、沈黙の祈りが深まります。
賛美の祈りを皆様で唱え、
間近に迫る、オミクロン株感染拡大防止の為に世界のヴィアトールファミリーと祈ります。
神の御名は賛美されますように・・・

Morning Mass of Thursday after Epiphany主の公現後木曜日の早朝ミサ

Dear Members of the Viatorian Family in the world,

Happy New Year.

I am Yukinobu OSHIMA, an associate member in Kyoto. This is my first post to this website.

The sun rose at 7:06 here in Japan this morning. The temperature was 3 degrees Celsius today. We have had these cold days for a week. 

We celebrated the morning mass for the first time this year. It was the Mass of Thursday after Epiphany. Father William, other associate members, and the faithful gathered for this mass at 7 o'clock in the morning. Our church is the only church in Kyoto City where the morning mass is celebrated at this moment. It is in many ways independent of the diocese, and its unique historical standing as a Viatorian community-led church allows it to set its own mass schedule. So parishioners from other Kyoto area churches can come and celebrate with us. We are really happy as associates to support the church activities and to prepare for masses.

I pray in the mass every morning so that this year will be a wonderful year for all the Viatorian Family members in the world.

親愛なるヴィアトール・ファミリーの皆様へ

あけましておめでとうございます。準会員の大島幸信と申します。初めて投稿させて頂きます。

今朝の日の出は７時６分で、気温は3℃。冷たい日が続いています。2022年初めての朝のミサを迎える事が出来ました。主の公現後木曜日のミサです。

早朝ミサは京都市内では現在この北白川教会だけで捧げられています。これも修道会の教会でこそ行えることです。ウィリアム神父様をはじめ準会員と一般信徒の皆様が朝7時に集まりました。修道会の教会なので、こうして小教区を越えたミサもしやすくなっています。私たち準会員は、こういった修道会教会の活動や、ミサが滞りなく捧げられようお手伝いさせてもらって、とても嬉しく思っています。

世界のヴィアトール・ファミリーの皆様にとって、今年も素晴らしい一年になりますように、毎早朝のミサで祈ります。

Hello, everyone.

This is the page of the Viatorians Kyoto, Japan. This page is to introduce our activities among the Viatorian Religious members and Associates. 

We have kept our Facebook page since 2012, and this is the first message after the long, long time of the Covid-19. Our new year's resolution is update here in this page as many events as possible to introduce our activities both at Rakusei High School and at St Viator Kitashirakawa Church.

Two priests work for our community now. Especially, Fr William (standing in the right) is always working very hard for us, both the school and the parish. He also celebrates the masses for the Sisters in the north area of Kyoto.

We hope we can be connected with the other Viatorian communities in the world and the people who help us.

そして新年あけましておめでとうございます。

Facebook pageで細々と私たちの活動をご紹介してまいりましたが、昨年の夏、コロナ自粛中のミサ配信以降、これがとても久しぶりの投稿になります。皆様お元気に過ごされていましたでしょうか。

今年の新年の決意としましては、今年はなんとか投稿を増やしていきたいと思います。私たちは、神父様方と協力して、ヴィアトール学園洛星中学校・高等学校、また聖ヴィアトール北白川教会を中心に活動をしておりますので、そういった活動の様子をご紹介したいと思っております。

現在日本にはお二人の神父様がおられますが、特にウィリアム神父様は、学校と小教区の両方で、とても一生懸命働いてくださっています。ノートルダムや聖母といった学校の宗教行事や修道会のミサも捧げてくださっています。私たちもなんとかそんな神父様方のお力になりたいと願い、自分に与えられた仕事をしております。

これからもよろしくお願いします。
